Before you set your annual goals, do you take time to look back? Yes, I want you to celebrate wins, and that’s part of looking back. It’s also important to review the past year with some key questions so you can make strategically informed decisions for the coming year. That’s what this episode is all about.
Welcome to the show notes! Remember, this is a brief summary from the How to Market Your Horse Business podcast. You'll want to listen to the entire episode for all the good stuff!
Do you ever take the time to sit down and look back at the past year before you set goals for what’s next?
I don’t mean just thinking about the memories and the fun you had at the shows or at expos or on the road.
It also doesn’t mean just looking at your financial statements or bank statements to make sure you brought in enough to make some money. (That could be an entirely different podcast!)
Year-end reviews as an equine entrepreneur go deeper than, “Did I meet my financial goals this year?”
You’ll have a hard time sustainably meeting your financial goals if the bottom line is all that you focus on as a business owner.
Whether you’re a one-man or woman show, leading a small team, or leading a large team of employees, there are three questions we should all be answering for an effective year-end review.
Before we get to those questions, though, let’s define what I mean by an effective review. An effective year-end review has three key elements:
It keeps your eye on the prize. Your why and your vision for your business should lead the charge.
It gives you key areas for improvement. Continuous improvement is key to your growth.
It propels you into the next year / phase. Why do a review if it’s not going to feed your next steps?
So, now that we know why every equine entrepreneur should do a year-end review and how to know if it’s really effective, here you go!
3 Questions for An Effective Year-End Review
Of course, you'll want to listen to the full episode to dig into each of these insights and discover how you can apply each one in your horse business!
