Once you know what success means to you in your equestrian business—because it's absolutely subjective — there's one mindset you'll need to keep front and center to chase after it.

Welcome to the show notes! Remember, this is a brief summary from the How to Market Your Horse Business podcast. You'll want to listen to the entire episode for all the good stuff!

How do you define success?

Curious, I looked up the “real” definition. Here’s what I found: the accomplishment of an aim or purpose

No wonder it’s subjective! Because the aim or purpose that you’re going after in your horse business is your own. It could be a specific profit margin percentage or net income amount. Maybe it’s being able to work a specific number of hours in the week so you can spend the rest of your time with your family or your horses or both. It’s in your hands!

So, before you can grow in your horse business, you have to know where you want to go (grow) and get that definition of success in place.

But, once you know what success means to you in your equestrian business, there's one mindset you'll need to keep front and center to chase after it.

You have to be willing to be uncomfortable to get the results you want.

Outside of business, we know this to be true.

Want muscles? You’re going to have to put in hard work that’s not always comfortable. And then, of course, there’s the soreness because you have to actually tear the muscle fibers for them to grow back stronger.

Want a deeper connection with a friend or spouse? It’s going to require a willingness to be honest and have some uncomfortable conversations. But, if you do it well, on the other side is a new understanding of one another.

Want to grow your equestrian business? You might have to become a numbers person, even if that’s uncomfortable for you. Or, get active and show up consistently on social media, even if it’s not your norm. If you grow your team, there will likely be some growing pains as you learn to hire and then lead employees.

When you’re feeling stuck and stagnant in your business, it might be because you’ve become complacent and have quit pushing yourself to do uncomfortable things—the things that will ultimately help you grow.

But, I know you don’t want to stay where you are – that’s why you’re here.

So, let’s get practical and apply this principle of embracing discomfort to your marketing specifically.

How do you choose discomfort in marketing for the sake of growing your horse business?

3 Ways You Can Embrace Discomfort in Marketing to Grow Your Equestrian Business

  1. Show your face online. Why it’s uncomfortable: “I don’t like how I look.” “It makes me nervous.” “I don’t know what to say.” When you commit to showing your face online at least once a month (once a week is even better in growth mode) and actually do it, you’re building your confidence and your connections online.

  2. Build your email list. Why it’s uncomfortable: Asking for email addresses makes you uneasy. To build a long-term sustainable equine business, you need to take them off the social platforms and into space you own.

  3. Send a regular email newsletter. Why it’s uncomfortable: Feels like spam. Collecting email addresses with no plan or strategy in place to stay in touch, keep you top of mind, and sell your services is not what’s going to build your business.

Pull out your phone or calendar and make your commitments to yourself. If you need some help putting a cohesive plan together, then Take the Reins, my 1:1 coaching program is for you.
