Welcome to the show notes! Remember, this is a brief summary from the How to Market Your Horse Business podcast. You'll want to listen to the entire episode for all the good stuff!
It’s no secret that entrepreneurs love the idea of time freedom and being your own boss. But, what about when it feels like the business is the boss, and your boss is taking over your life?
How do you manage your time as an equine entrepreneur and still grow your business?
While seasons of hustle and full schedules will always be part of owning and running a horse business, that doesn’t mean you need to burn yourself to the ground. The goal is sustainability so you can do what you love for the long-term, remember?
In this episode, we’re diving into 5 practical time management tips that will help you manage the daily demands on your time and do it in a way that helps you keep doing what you love.
5 Time Management Tips for the Busy Equine Entrepreneur
Time tracking.
Before you roll your eyes, hear me out. How else will you make informed decisions about how to spend your time if you don’t know how you’re actually spending it?
My favorite tool for this is the Toggl app.
Time blocking.
Essentially, the goal is to block out chunks of time on your calendar and then only do the task you’ve assigned to that chunk of time. This tip alleviates the pain and stress of being pulled in a hundred different directions at one time. Your efficiency will go up, and so will your mental capacity!
Identify your top 3 priorities.
Start with the week. What are the three things you want to accomplish this week that will actually move you closer to your goals?
Then, each day name three priorities. Focus on the priorities before you get carried away with other side projects of distractions.
Find (and use) systems.
There is no such thing as the perfect system. Only the one that’s perfect for you.
Are you using a CRM to help you manage the sales and delivery process with clients and customers? If not, we might have just found your first system to tackle. You can thank me later.
Know your downfalls.
What are the things you know you’re prone to do that actually waste your time?
For example, is spending too much time in your inbox an issue? Set a timer. Unsubscribe from emails you don’t actually read.
Do you avoid big tasks and then put them off until you’re stressed out about them? Make a plan to “eat the frog first” as they say.
Invite accountability when you identify your time management downfalls or weaknesses. That’s the beauty of having a coach like me in your corner!
Remember to use your personal definition of success as your filter for time management decisions and practices.
What works for you and what feels good for you and your family and the capacity you have in this season is not going to be the same for the people you follow online.
Stop comparing. Focus on your personal vision and filter for success.
Of course, you'll want to listen to the full episode to dig into each of the insights shared and discover how you can apply each one in your horse business!
