Welcome to the show notes! Remember, this is a brief summary from the How to Market Your Horse Business podcast. You'll want to listen to the entire episode for all the good stuff!

I don’t think we talk enough about this part of running a horse business.

For a long time, I used to say that equestrian entrepreneurs were stuck because they were treating their business like a hobby.

And yes, that’s still true for many.

But if you’re here listening to this podcast, that’s probably not you.

You care about your business.

You want it to grow.

You’re doing the work.

And yet, something still feels off.

You’re busy all day, but not always sure what actually moved the needle.

You’re making money, but it still feels inconsistent or reactive.

You try to sit down and “work on the business”… and end up back in the weeds.

Here’s what I see more often now:

You’re not treating your business like a hobby. You’re running it like an employee instead of a CEO.

And that shift changes everything.

Because even if you’re a company of one… your business still needs leadership.

Let’s dive into five ways you can step into that CEO role so you can consistently grow your horse business.

1. Own the Identity

This is where it all begins. And, this is what sets successful CEOs apart.

Before strategy, systems, or any big moves, you have to start with the internal work.

You have to decide who you are in your business.

Because if your thoughts sound like:

“I don’t know if I’m good enough”

“Who am I to charge that?”

“What if this doesn’t work?”

You’re going to hesitate. You’re going to second-guess. You’re going to play small.

Take Action Today:

Ask yourself this question:

If I were already operating as the CEO of my business… what would I do differently this week?

2. Know Your Numbers

Let’s bring this down to earth for a minute.

CEO energy isn’t just mindset, it’s also making decisions from data.

If you don’t know your numbers, you’re not leading your business. You’re just guessing.

Here’s your permission to start simple. You need to know:

Your monthly revenue

Your revenue by service or product

Your monthly expenses

Your actual profit

That last one matters more than you think.

Because a big income number doesn’t mean a healthy business.

When you know your numbers, you make better decisions. You spot patterns. You see what’s working and what’s not.

And that’s where real growth starts.

Take Action Today:

If you don’t have a system, make a decision on how you’ll track this moving forward.

If you do have a system, put a monthly money date on your calendar.

3. Track What Actually Drives Growth

This is a big one.

It’s easy to focus on metrics like followers or email list size. And while those numbers aren’t meaningless, they’re not what actually create results.

Instead, shift your focus to what you can control.

Ask yourself:

How many emails did I send this month?

How many posts had a clear call to action?

How many conversations did I start?

Determine the actions that generate leads for your business and lean into that.

Take Action Today:

Look at your version of success. What’s the number you want to see grow, the outcome? What’s the action you’re going to measure that’s connected to making that happen?

4. Build Repeatable Systems

If your business feels like you’re constantly starting from scratch, this is your sign.

When every post, every sale, every client experience is different, it creates unnecessary stress and inconsistency.

That’s a systems problem. Good news, though. You don’t need to fix everything overnight.

Start with one area:

Your content process

Your onboarding workflow

Your lead generation strategy

Then write down the steps you repeat every time.

That’s your starting point.

Because systems are what turn effort into consistency, and consistency is what builds momentum.

Take Action Today:

Identify the one area you will create a system or SOP around. Just pick one and then progress from there.

5. Protect Your Time Like It Matters

Because it does. Time is the one commodity you can’t buy back.

Remember: Employees react to their calendar. CEOs decide what deserves to be on it.

Another common time belief you may need to unravel: busy and productive are not the same thing.

If you want a business that actually supports your life—not consumes it—you have to start protecting your time like it’s one of your most valuable assets.

Take Action Today:

Before you say yes to something, ask this question:

“Does this get me closer to my 10x vision, or is it just a 2x distraction?”

These five areas are not everything. But, they are the foundation.

This CEO shift and these habits are the difference between:

Working hard… and building something sustainable

Making money… and creating consistent growth

Doing business alone… and leading with clarity

And here’s what I’ve seen as I’ve coached a variety of equine entrepreneurs through the years:

This is really hard to do in isolation.

You can keep trying to figure it out as you go.
