Welcome to the show notes! Remember, this is a brief summary from the How to Market Your Horse Business podcast. You'll want to listen to the entire episode for all the good stuff!

“Maybe I’m just boring.”

That’s what a client said to me when evaluating the results of a recent promotion.

How easy it is for us as entrepreneurs to internalize our results!

Before you blame your offer, your audience, or yourself… there’s one question I want you to ask: What are you measuring your success against?

The real issue isn’t you. It’s the unrealistic expectations you’re measuring yourself against. Expectations shaped by someone else’s highlight reel or the voice in your head that’s telling you to keep up.

Your next level starts when you stop doing this: Comparing your results to everyone else and guessing what should happen instead of anchoring your expectations and goals in reality.

Grounding your goals in reality doesn’t mean shrinking your dreams. It means setting expectations based on actual data — not guesswork or comparison.

When you stop comparing your behind-the-scenes to someone else’s results (without knowing their full story or support system), you make room for clarity and smart strategy. And that’s what fuels long-term, sustainable growth.

Here are 4 ways to ground your expectations in reality while keeping those big dreams you’re chasing front and center:

  1. Anchor your identity.

Who are you building this business for?

What do you define as success (not what you see online)?

What’s your version of enough?

Remember: You don’t need to chase someone else’s numbers to build a profitable and aligned business

  1. Know industry standards.

Here’s a peek at some benchmarks equine business owners should know:

Landing pages average a 6.6% conversion rate across industries.

Email open rates? 30% is strong.

Click-through rates? 2–3% is expected.

Live conversion events like webinars or challenges? 5–7% is solid.

Context is everything. If you’ve been expecting your sales page to convert at over 50%, then it’s no wonder you’re feeling defeated.

  1. Measure what matters.

If you only pay attention to the total at the end of the day, you’re missing the information that informs that total.

That means you’re missing out on data and information that can help you to scale, grow, or build.

What you need to measure is not exactly the same for everyone but there are some similarities in the key performance indicators you’ll want to track. This is why every Take the Reins 1:1 coaching client has a customized Measure What Matters dashboard.

  1. Focus on needle-movers.

Don’t try to fix everything all at one time.

As Rory Vaden says, “If you dilute your focus you dilute your results.”

What are the one or two things you need to focus on right now that will actually move the needle toward your goals?

What’s MOST important rather than just what’s urgent?

How to Anchor Your Growth in Reality & Level Up Your Equine Business

Here are 3 steps you can take, starting today:

Know your numbers.

Not just revenue, but traffic, conversion rates, engagement, and profit margin.

Define success for yourself.

Not what you see everyone else doing or posting, without any context for their timeline, journey, or support network.

Get outside perspective.

Bring in a trusted coach, mastermind, or peer to help you see clearly where you’re stuck and how to move forward.
