Welcome to the show notes! Remember, this is a brief summary from the How to Market Your Horse Business podcast. You'll want to listen to the entire episode for all the good stuff!
Running a horse business takes guts.
Whether you're a trainer, an instructor, a photographer, a bodyworker, or an equine educator — you didn’t get into this work for the money alone. Sure, profit matters. But that’s not what gets you out of bed on the hard days.
What does?
That’s the question I’ve been sitting with lately — and it’s the one I want to invite you to reflect on, too.
When the Shine Wears Off Your Equine Business
Every equestrian entrepreneur hits a season when the work starts to feel heavier than usual.
The horse trainer who once loved every lesson suddenly dreads back-to-back client days that leave no time to ride her own horses.
The riding instructor who used to feel energized by helping students improve now finds herself stuck in survival mode, wondering if the effort is even worth it.
The equine photographer who poured her heart into a recent show wonders why bookings have slowed — and questions if she’s lost her touch.
The equine bodyworker juggling client care, travel, and invoicing finds herself staring at spreadsheets instead of spending time with horses.
The educator who's passionate about teaching horse owners starts feeling burnt out by the content creation cycle and pressure to constantly “show up online.”
If you’ve ever felt like the spark that started your business is flickering a little dimmer, you’re not alone. And it doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means it’s time to return to your why.
The Power of Re-Centering to Keep the Life in Your Equine Business
This isn’t fluffy “follow your passion” talk. This is about grounding your business in purpose — so that when growth feels confusing, slow, or just plain exhausting, you’re not tempted to quit or chase someone else’s version of success.
I recently had to do this myself.
As I was building a new group coaching experience for equestrian entrepreneurs, I found myself overwhelmed. I was walking myself through the same process I guide my coaching clients through — market research, offer clarity, success metrics — and the inner questions were loud.
Who am I best suited to help?
What is the real transformation I want to offer?
What’s noise from the online world… and what’s truly needed?
Right in the middle of that swirl, I got an email from someone on my list. She said the story I’d shared in my email — about a fellow equine photographer pivoting her focus — was the confirmation she needed to do the same in her business.
Her note reminded me: This is why I do what I do.
Yes, I help horse business owners with websites, email marketing, and social strategy. But more than that, I help them grow their equine business with clarity, confidence, and purpose. That’s my professional why.
That clarity is what I’m bringing into the new group coaching program I’m creating: The Business Barn Collective.
It’s for equestrian entrepreneurs who’ve already been building but feel like they’re doing it in a silo. You’ve been testing ideas, refining your offers, and seeing progress, but you crave a strategic container and a supportive circle of peers who get the horse world.
This isn’t a Facebook group with surface-level check-ins.
It’s a tight-knit group of driven equine business owners committed to growing with intention. We’ll touch on marketing, profit strategy, and leadership — all through the lens of sustainable business growth rooted in your personal definition of success.
If that sounds like what you’ve been missing, stay tuned. Enrollment opens soon.
My Multi-faceted Why for Stormlily Marketing
When I first started Stormlily Marketing, part of my dream was to create a business that could one day fund a bigger vision: a place where at-risk youth and trauma survivors could experience the healing power of horses.
That vision is becoming reality through Stormlily Ranch, now a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
At Stormlily Ranch, the horse is the counselor. Each participant will be matched with a safe adult mentor and get to spend time simply being with horses in a peaceful ranch environment — a place to experience the love of Jesus and the healing only horses can offer.
I’m not building this alone. A community of monthly prayer partners and donors are helping bring this vision to life. And Stormlily Marketing still plays a role — financially, practically, and missionally.
That’s my personal why. And I’m still building toward it, just like you’re building toward yours.
Your Turn
Now, I want to leave you with three powerful questions to help you re-center to your why:
What is the story behind why I started this business?
What was the problem I hoped to solve — for horses, people, or both?
What part of my work feels most sacred or fulfilling?
What lights me up the most — even when I’m tired or overwhelmed?
What kind of impact do I want to have through my business?
In my clients’ lives, in my family, in my community, and beyond?
Write them down. Reflect on them this week. Reconnect to the spark that started it all.
And if you feel led, send me a message. I’d love to hear the heart behind your horse business.
